Netflix Scam Warning: Users Across 23 Countries At Risk

Netflix Users’ Credit Card Details at Risk

A new phishing tactic is underway to target Netflix subscribers and try to steal their credit card details. This scam was first brought to light by Bitdefender, a cybersecurity firm. According to sources, this scam spans 23 nations, such as Germany, the US, Spain, France, etc., and might begun in September.

This new phishing tactic sends a sensitive SMS stating there was an issue processing their last payment. Then, it provides an official-looking link to sign in to confirm their Netflix credentials. After the users click the link, they are greeted with a duplicate model of Netflix where they are asked for credentials. The next page shows that the user’s Netflix account is suspended and asks for personal info and credit card details – all this information is sold on the dark web.

After this news broke, OTT platform Netflix issued an official statement saying it never asks users for personal information via text message or email. It said, “We will never request payment through a 3rd party vendor or website. If the text or email links to a URL you don’t recognise, tap or click it.”

Users are advised to delete any suspicious-looking message and log in to their Netflix account using the official website or app. They must also have a strong password and use two-factor authentication.
