How to Recover Deleted Whatsapp Message
There may some situations arise that you have accidentally deleted a message on Whatsapp, and immediately regretted this. For such situation, there is a way to restore deleted messages or chats. There is one method to bring back Whatsapp chats overwritten by an iCloud or Google Drive backup. You have to remember one thing that you can only restore chats if the backup option had been turned on which is present on the first page on the Whatsapp. It means that if you had not done a backup of your chats, then you won’t be able to recover your chats that you accidentally deleted.
The particular methods involve the uninstalling of Whatsapp and then restoring from the most recent backup. It means that you may lose some messages which have arrived between the time of your last backup and you deleted a chat. This process of recovering the deleted messages is important enough to risk potentially losing some data. There are many gadgets available, among them; Gadget 360 is not responsible for losing any data. This process is done only at your own risk.
How to turn on the chat backup:
To turn on the chat backup, the first thing you have to do is open your Whatsapp. Then go to Settings, then Chats, and then hit on Chat backup. Here, you can able to set up the frequency of your chat backup. Many options available for you, such as; daily, never, monthly, and weekly. You can choose according to your wishes. You can also go for a manual backup as well. Then, you will have to choose the Google account where you want to store your backup. This process is only applicable to Android Smartphone users.
For iPhone users, first, open the Whatsapp, and then go to Settings, Chats and then tap on Chat backup. Here you have two options to choose from. One is for “Auto Backup” frequency and another one is for manual Backup i.e. “Back up now”. 2nd option is used to initiate a backup manually to iCloud. Here are the methods for restoring the deleted messages on Whatsapp;
Restore deleted messages chats via Cloud Backup:
If you have deleted your chats for some reason, then there may a chance that those chats were present on your cloud back up such as iCloud backup, and Google Drive. Followings are the steps for restoring the deleted messages.
-
For this, firstly you have to uninstall your Whatsapp from your Android Smartphone.
-
Then, reinstall it.
-
Once you are done with all the set up of the app, then you will find an option for restoring messages from a cloud backup. And this backup would be from Google Drive on Android, and iCloud on iOS. Then tap Restore.
-
This will bring your deleted messages back. But you have to make sure that you got a message after the most recent cloud backup, and deleted it. Then there is no such way to recover it.
Restoring deleted messages chats via Android’s local backup:
There is another such way to restore deleted messages from local backups on your Android phone. This method does not apply to iOS users. The following steps are applied for restoring deleted messages;
-
First of all go to the file manager of your phone, then to Whatsapp, and then go to the database. Here, the database folder contains all the backup files which are stored locally on your phone.
-
Now choose the file named as msgstore.db.crypt12 and then rename it to msgstore_BACKUP.db.crypt12. This is the most recent backup file of your Smartphone. In such a case, you should rename your file to its original name and then restore it.
-
Now, you will find a bunch of files in the format msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12. These all are older Whatsapp backups. You can pick one of the most recent and rename it to msgstore.db.crypt12.
-
Now, you will open Google Drive on your Smartphone and tap on the hamburger icon then go to backups. Now delete the entire Whatsapp backup. It will force to restore from the local backup.
-
Now uninstall your Whatsapp and reinstall it. After setting up, you’ll get an option to restore chats from a local backup.
-
Then at last tap on Restore. Now, you will get back your deleted messages back.
These are the two methods to restore the deleted Whatsapp messages when you have deleted accidentally. You have to turn your chat backup on in order to restore any messages.
