Qualcomm Announced New Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor, With Double Fingerprint Authentication
Qualcomm is no more limited to its new mobile processors, as it has also talked about the next generation of its finger-print sensor namely 3D Sonic Max. Also, the new sensor is 17 times larger than the original sensor area. According to Qualcomm, it is the largest fingerprint sensor available. Several phone makers are pushing forward with optical in-display sensors, but Qualcomm has decided to offer something out of the box. While the optical sensor uses the light to record your fingerprints and unlock the device, 3D Sonic Max is an ultrasonic sensor which uses sound pressure waves to capture the prints of your fingers to unlock the smartphone.
Earlier in Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10
Earlier, Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series have come up with this ultrasonic sensor but it was unsuccessful as they were less responsive as compared to optical sensors. The interesting part of ‘3D Sonic Max’ is that- this sensor can recognize two fingerprints at once which means it offers even better security than before. As the reorganization area has grown up comparatively previous generation, it allows for the double security, increased speed and ease of use via simultaneously two-fingers authentication.
Specifications
The new fingerprint sensor, 3D Sonic Max, measures 20mm X 30mm and giving a 600 square millimeter sensing area for the reason of fingerprint authentication. Moreover, if we come to the thickness, it is 0.15 mm thin which is the reason it doesn’t hog up too much space. Due to the increased size, registering a print will be faster than the current method.
Where it would be used?
Most surprisingly, this fingerprint security sensor will not only work to unlock your phone but further uses of this ultrasonic fingerprint sensor include secure login to the apps with sensitive information such as bank apps and Emails. Rumors are suggesting that uses of this sensor will extend to more commercial use starting in 2020. Like the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 plus has already put this Qualcomm sensor, it is possible to see the new scanner in the latest model of Samsung – Samsung Galaxy S 11.
When it is expected to see?
All the details of the next generation of the fingerprint sensor are in words as it is not sure when exactly this feature will come into play. However, we may see it by next year as the tech has been introduced already and considering some partner OEMs are already working on the same.
With which brand it may arrive first?
In Economic daily news report, Apple could be using this new Qualcomm 3D sonic max for its further iPhones. And that may arrive either in the 2020 or 2021 iPhones. Along with this, Apple may also come with FaceID or in-display fingerprint sensor at some point in 2020 or 2021.
