The New Windows 12: Unveiling The Future Of Windows OS
Lately, there has been a new buzz in the technology landscape, created by rumours and leaks of Microsoft's new offering, Windows 12. However, one thing must be cleared before continuing with the blog. Microsoft hasn’t made any official announcements, but some leaks and rumours suggest that the latest Windows 12 can be here by the end of 2024. For this to happen, Microsoft will have to release a teaser in the next two months, considering their track record. However, this blog will discuss the leaks, rumours and what people expect from the new Windows 12.
Source Of Leaks
Before discussing the features, leaks, release date, and other exciting things, we must first know the source of these leaks and rumours. Most of the rumours and leaks regarding the OS's development come from a single source: Windows Central’s Zac Bowden. He has some sources of insider information in the company and, on top of that, has a pretty robust track record regarding leaks and rumours regarding Windows. According to him, the new Windows 12 may have built-in AI features and switch to a lightweight modular code. He also mentioned that the code name for Windows 12 is Hudson Valley.
Leaked Desktop
The next leak we are about to discuss is probably the most credible leak in this write-up. It is a peak at the supposed Windows 12 desktop, which came in the latest Ignite conference, scheduled for Chicago. The company used a familiar but slightly altered desktop in the conference announcement. People are assuming that this desktop is from the upcoming Windows 12.
The screenshot of the desktop shows a floating taskbar and blurred-out components on the screen. Among the blurred components are a floating taskbar at the top of the screen, a few icons at the top right corner of the screen, and a weather widget at the top left corner of the screen.
However, some people are sceptical and think these updates are too normal for a whole new Windows, using the changes between Windows 10 and 11 as an example. But if you look at it, the changes between Windows 10 and 11 were not that dramatic. Sure, the interface was a little different, and a few features were also different. However, one thing to keep in mind is that Windows 11 has had countless updates since it was first launched. It was those updates that brought the most dramatic changes. That being said, it is possible that this screenshot is from an updated Windows 11.
Will Windows 12 Offer AI Features
Well, if you follow Windows updates and Microsoft news even a little bit, you know that Windows 12 will be filled with AI features. This is mainly because Microsoft has already introduced a few AI software, like Copilot and Dev. So, it's safe to say that Windows 12 will have a fair share of AI features. Moreover, one thing that will most certainly be there is better compatibility with AI hardware. The all-new RTX 5090 will be the best hardware for Windows 12, considering the AI features Nvidia plans to incorporate into this card.
Microsoft has already introduced custom processing neural unit support in their ARM-powered Surface Pro, so it's safe to assume that we will see AI support in the new Microsoft Windows 12.
UI Changes
Many people are also expecting a dramatic change in the UI of Windows 12. Looking at Microsoft's previous changes, expect the new Windows 12 to be a lot like MacOS. Windows 11 had many MacOS-esque features, like the extensive use of round corners, a minimalist design, taskbar placement, and many others. However, it's still very much recognisable as Windows OS. Expect to see the same trend continue in the latest Windows 12.
Changes In Hardware Requirements
One of the major changes in Windows 11 was its extensive hardware requirements, which essentially locked older hardware to run the OS. However, it's safe to say that it won’t be the case with Windows 12. Why? Well, mainly because Microsoft doesn’t often change the hardware requirements. Moreover, they have just made significant changes to Windows 11.
That being said, don’t be surprised to see significant changes in hardware requirements, as Windows 12 will also incorporate many AI features. So, there is a chance that the new OS will require some sort of AI hardware.
Release Date
Now, this is the elephant in the room. We cannot quote a date as mentioned earlier, and Microsoft hasn’t made any official announcement. However, looking at their track record, many people believe that Windows 12 will arrive at the end of 2024 or the very beginning of 2025. Why is that expected? Well, because except for Windows 11, all the other Windows have had a 3-year gap between them. Windows 11 was released in October 2021, which makes 2024 the right year to release the new OS. It's worth mentioning that the gap between Windows 10 and 11 was a whopping 6 years.
Get Ready To Usher Into The Future Of Windows
Whether late 2024 or early 2025, Windows 12 will definitely be one of the most revolutionary versions of Windows, mostly because of the integration of AI. The release date or its features are not official yet, but expect Microsoft to surprise everyone with its latest OS. The rumours and leaks mentioned in this blog are all taken from different sources, like Zac Bowden, so take this blog with a grain of salt. We hope you liked our blog.
