Gmail Warns Its 2.5 Billion Users About AI Hacking

Gmail recently confirmed an AI hack and warned its 2.5 billion users to stay vigilant. In this scam, cybercriminals call users and convince them about working from Google support with caller IDs that appear to be legit.
Cybercriminals say someone else has compromised the user’s ID and is trying to recover their account. Next, they email a recovery code to the user’s Gmail account, with the sender’s mail ID looking genuine. According to a Forbes report, 2.5 billion Gmail users have already been targeted.
Zach Latta, the founder of Hack Club, discussed the matter with Forbes, describing how the scam works with a super clear connection and appropriate accent.
SonicWall vice president Spencer Starkey stated, “Cybercriminals are constantly developing new tactics, techniques, and procedures to exploit vulnerabilities and bypass security controls. Companies must quickly adapt and respond to these threats.”
This spoofing technique first came to the limelight a couple of months ago when Cloudjoy founder Sam Mitrovic was targeted. To avoid falling prey to such attacks, users should report suspicious activities to Gmail, never share verification codes, and verify accounts through Gmail directly.
