Government’s Chrome Warning for Windows and Mac Users
The CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) issued a critical warning for Chrome users on Mac, Windows, Chromebooks, and smartphones. This alert highlights multiple vulnerabilities on the platform, which cybercriminals can exploit to access sensitive data, execute code, or damage systems. Smartphone users are at a lower risk of facing these security vulnerabilities. Linux systems are not safe either from vulnerabilities affecting Chrome versions before 132.0.6834.110.
These issues originate from out-of-bounds memory access in V8, insufficient data validation by extensions, race in frames, extensions and compositing, fenced frames, etc.
The Indian security watchdog CERT-In detected two vulnerabilities — CIVN-2025-0007 and CIVN-2025-0007 — in Chrome on Mac devices. These flaws impact Chrome versions before 132.0.6834.83/8r and allow attackers to execute arbitrary code, causing DoS (Denial of Services) or bypassing security restrictions.
In Windows, the same vulnerabilities affect Chrome versions before 132.0.6834.110/111. They lead to system crashes, unauthorised access to sensitive data, or data exfiltration controlled by attackers.
To keep these vulnerabilities at bay, users must update their browsers and operating systems and avoid making cybersecurity mistakes like using weak passwords. They must also implement cyber security tips for Mac and Windows devices.
