Samsung’s New Power Delivery Chip - 100W Charging Speeds

Samsung’s New Power Delivery Chip

Samsung wants to speed up the things and that is the reason why they have announced two USB Type-C power delivery controllers i.e. MM101, and SE8A. By using these Power delivery controllers, Samsung will be able to communicate with other devices and deliver the exact amount of product/power. This is done by the power chargers. It will permit the power charger to deliver the highest amount of possible power. And it helps in quick charging without harming the device.

Both the chips have an embedded Flash (eFlash), which allows them to be updated about new charging specification. Both the chips also have the capacity to supply 100W of power (20V/5A). And also meet the USB-PD 3.0 specifications. According to the company, the first power delivery controller is SE8A. It is used in embedding secure elements which adds an extra layer of security. This chip offers SE8A security key Storage. It is also able to encode or decode sensitive data on the Smartphone. It helps the USB Type-C authentication. It also enables an authentication program for USB chargers and devices that prevents misuse of unapproved products. MM101 and SE8A are the two chips that are used to support an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), and a symmetric encryption algorithm. It is applicable for product authentication. Moisture sensing was also included by the MM101 chip which is used to ensure safer charging conditions.

Since these chips are supported up to 100W of input, these can be used in various devices other than Smartphone’s such as; laptops, tablets, and monitors. They also provide over-voltage protection for additional safety. SE8A is currently working in mass production and another one named MM101 is sampling. With long charging at a speed limit of 100W could soon be a thing of the past.
