iPhone 12 Review: The Best iPhone Ever With A14 Bionic Chip

iPhone 12 Review

World’s premium smartphone brand Apple has recently released the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro as the beginning of the next-Gen iPhone. With the latest A14 Bionic Chip a step ahead of the previously launched iPhone 11, a fresh design, slight upgrades in the camera and 5G Support elevate it a little up to the iPhone X and 11 generations. Though this is not a new trick of Apple because it has done something similar to “Small Upgrades with bigger Potentials' ' previously in 2010 with iPhone 4 and in 2014 with the release of iPhone 6and 6 Plus. Although the late iPhone 7 and 8 series didn’t undergo this process.

But, apart from this, there is a big change in the iPhone 12 generation. This is the first time in the history of iPhones when Apple launched 4 new iPhones in a raw ‒ iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. These are beautifully designed and strategically launched to create a customer-friendly market segment. Customers looking for a similar experience, but running low on budget can go for the iPhone 12 Mini. If you want something bigger with better camera quality and hardware experience, there is the iPhone 12 Pro Max waiting for you. But the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro which are similar are out of this segment. Have a quick look at the following details of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

What We Like and Dislike About the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro

Both iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have the same size, same design, same display, the same superfast latest A14 Bionic chip, and the same 5G support. But still, there are a few different things that we like and dislike about these two iPhones.

  • Premium design and appealing finish.

  • Best-in-class autofocus for Photos & Videos.

  • World-class Hardware and Amazing Build Quality.

Dislike:

  • iPhone 12 offers almost the same then why would someone pay higher for this?

  • Apart from the camera, things are so similar to iPhone 12 which is available at less price.

With nearly the same selfie, wide and ultra-wide-angle camera, interestingly, they both come in the “Blue”. Well, technically the iPhone 12 Pro is ‘Pacific Blue’. This is copied from last year’s base and pro model. Previously launched iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro for $699 and $999 respectively, were nearly similar, omitting a few major changes enough to consider them different from each other.

The company has set $829 for iPhone 12 (or $799 if you purchase it with the carrier activation). It is $130 more than iPhone 11 at the time of its release. Talk about the iPhone 12 with 128GB storage (the same as iPhone 12 Pro) is available at $879 (with a carrier discount of $120) that the $999 iPhone 12 Pro. It’s better to consider both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro as “Better” and “Best” models respectively.

While both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have the same features excluding an extra camera, buying an iPhone 12 can save you a hundred dollars. But, there are many people who will buy the iPhone 12 Pro only for its premium design and overall best-in-class camera system you would ever experience. Although, both are the fastest iPhones in our test.

Apart from the features, the iPhone 12 generation became people’s favorite for its ultimate design that Apple adopted to redefine the iPhone 5 series. Here are some more details about the design of this latest iPhone series of iPhone.

The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Design & Similarities with iPhone 5

One of the most awaited things about the iPhone 12 is its remarkable design that is to recreate the golden era of the iPhone during the launch of the iPhone 5 - “The Square-sided Design”. Though Apple’s concept of premium and flagship iPhone is different from what we see in the flagship phone from Android smartphones. The design you get is  premium, but the body color doesn’t seem to morph from one to another. The screen is not wrapped around the corners, in fact, none of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have curved edges.

Instead of the curved edges, a straight-edged, well-polished stainless steel band redefined the iconic design of the iPhone 5 on the iPhone 12 and premium matte aluminum case on the 12. It is similar to what Apple did with iPhone 5, 5S, and SE, without chamfer the edges. Talk about the premium design of the iPhone 12 & 12 Pro, both have a bold, appealing, and fascinating look without any frills. Though the build quality and matte finish of the 12 Pro is outstanding and extraordinary.

Also, the iPhone 12 sports a stunning OLED panel, which is called a super XDR display. Gone are the days of the LCD display on the iPhone. It was last found on iPhone XR and 11. With the latest iPhone 12 generation, the turn for the OLED Display panel has on. Apart from the contrast and resolution, the square-sided design appears to push the display up. When turning the phone to its back, it seems to hold up the display while trying to hide it. Both iPhone 12 and 12 Pro screens are covered with a ceramic shield, a new kind of material that starts off the glass with nano-ceramic crystals. Though we didn’t run a drop test, both the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro acquired IP68 certificate for water and dust resistance and can remain submerged to a depth of 6 meters for nearly 30 minutes.

In terms of battery, the iPhone 12 we tested for 17 hours and 14 minutes while the iPhone 12 Pro lasted 15 hours, 56 minutes. Though we charge it quickly via its USB-C lightning cable that offers super fast speed.

Note: You must have seen the meme that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro don’t come with any pair of wired or non-wired earbuds of a power adapter. It’s true that it doesn’t include the charger and earbuds.

Techtoreview Verdict and Rating

It takes nothing to dismiss the thought of buying an iPhone 12 as just ‘more similarities’, especially, when you know that the new compact iPhone 12 Mini is on its way to launch soon. But as the 5G networks are rapidly growing and the MagSafe addition can be proved groundbreaking in the history of the iPhone, you must experience its premium design and high-quality camera. While Apple favored from the environmental causes behind this conspiracy of bringing no charger and earbuds with the iPhone 12 series, you will need to purchase it separately that would cost similarly. Though it’s slightly more expensive than last year’s iPhone 11, the premium iPhone 5 design is back so it seems to rocket-up the sales. We would rate this 8.7/10 for the powerful speed, best-in-class camera, and the latest A14 Bionic chip making it the fastest phone ever.
