How To Protect The Passwords On Your Phone

How To Protect The Passwords On Phone

Nowadays, you need a password for everything where your phone is concerned, and rightly so. Nobody wants to be in a position where one of their accounts is compromised because that can lead to all sorts of trouble. But just how do you go about protecting the passwords on your phone?

Use A Password Manager

Where password managers are concerned, there are several options. For example, a user could choose to use a password manager that comes in the form of an app. Or, they could make use of one via a web browser. Password managers, in short, act like a safe for all your passwords. So, for anyone who wants to download online apps, for example, they’re going to set a password for their account, but then it will be stored inside the vault of a password manager. It is worth noting that users will have to remember the master password that will give them access to the password manager app.

Install Mobile Antivirus

It may seem straightforward, but installing a mobile antivirus app these days is highly recommended, and it’s going to do a fantastic job at keeping your passwords safe and secure at all times too. Smartphones, because of how advanced they are, have quickly become targets for cyber crooks and their malware, and this can make passwords vulnerable. However, with robust antivirus installed, which also comes via an app, there will be no need to worry. Many antivirus apps will also have dedicated password features, with some having a password vault akin to what you get with a password manager app.

Check For Any Compromises

There will be times when situations occur, and passwords are compromised. This can come via hacks and data leaks, but if you’re not regularly keeping across these types of things, you may not know until it's too late, which can lead to further problems. There are websites out there that you can type your details into that will immediately tell you if any of your accounts, and passwords, have been compromised. Some antivirus apps also have these capabilities built in, and so do some leading web browsers too. And, if there has been a compromise, quick action can be taken to prevent any issues from occurring or snowballing out of control.

Utilise Two-Factor Authentication

Slightly akin to checking for compromises, making use of two-factor authentication is perhaps a last line of defence in ensuring that passwords are kept secure at all times. What two-factor authentication, often referred to as 2FA, does is couple with entering a password before giving a user access to an account or app. The way in which using 2FA keeps passwords on your phone secure is that it can prevent cyber crooks from abusing the reset password system and prevent them from gaining access, and then locking out the genuine user or account holder. 2FA can be used with alerts sent via text message, or via app, with the latter more secure.
