The Best Sports Apps for Mobile Devices

Best Sports Apps for Mobile Devices

CAPTION: There is an app out there for every sport, so no matter which one you’re passionate about you’ll find one to suit you

Once upon a time, you had to wait for the Sunday sports roundups, or buy the sports section of the newspaper before you could find out how your favourite team did or get the big news from famous tournaments, like the Superbowl or Wimbledon.

These days, with most of us carrying around a miniature supercomputer in our pockets, the best in sporting news, commentary, and sports statistics is just a thumb swipe away.

In this article, we’ll be looking at the best apps that a sports-lover can have installed on their phone, tablet, or other mobile devices.

ESPN - iOS and Android

Basically the great-granddaddy of all sports networks, ESPN’s app digitizes their vast array of sports coverage and collects it all in one place for you to view. You can enjoy breakdowns of recent games by informed figures, ranging from coaches to former players, and get specific results and sports information customized for the tournaments and teams that you love.

If you are on the move a lot and don’t really have the time to catch up on the latest matches, you can always sign up for ESPN+. This monthly subscription service will allow you to stream live events and watch a library of saved sporting events right on your phone, so you’ll never have to miss a match again.

If fantasy sports are more your thing, ESPN has a sister app, ESPN Fantasy Sports that hosts fantasy leagues for football, basketball, baseball, and hockey, alongside a score prediction game called Streak.

Yahoo Sports - iOS and Android

Yahoo Sports offers users a huge range of sporting content for the price of absolutely free. You can get personalized sporting results, updates, breaking news, and statistics, all related to your favourite teams or sports, sent directly to your mobile device. Even better, you can watch live MLB and NHL matches without even needing to subscribe.

Becoming part of the Yahoo Sports community also means that you’ll have access to a huge array of sports fans across the world who share your passion. Yahoo Sports runs linked fantasy sports leagues for you to participate in with that same global community, some of which offer real money prizes when you pick a winning team.

MLS - iOS and Android

If you’re a huge fan of soccer, Major League Soccer (MLS) is the best app for keeping abreast of all the developments in the major international leagues.  You can tune the app to only show you the scores of your favourite team, or it can provide you with highlights of the best soccer around the world.

You'll get up to minute scores for a range of matches from the MLS, Gold Cup and CONCACAF Champions League, alongside many of the most important matches from international football. If you are planning on seeing your team play live, you can manage that trip using the innovative match calendar and digital ticket management systems (SeatGeek and Ticketmaster tickets only) available in-app.

In addition to scores and results, you’ll also find box scores, starting line-up lists and a huge library of media, such as photos, videos, and clips of important plays.

CAPTION: If you are on the move a lot, getting the right sports app can be key to keeping up to date and streaming live matches on the go

Fox Super 6 - iOS and Android

If getting all the sports scores, commentary, and play-by-play breakdowns straight to your phone have given you some insight into picking the winners, FOX Bet is going to give you the chance to make those skills work for you.

The Stars Group and FOX Sports are expected to launch two products in the Fall of 2019 under the FOX Bet umbrella. One will be a nationwide free-to-play game called Fox Super 6, awarding cash prizes to players who correctly predict the outcome of sports games.

Every Thursday night, the app will award prizes to players whose sporting expertise allows them to correctly predict the outcome of a selection of games from the MLB, NBA, NFL, and the UK Premier League in the FOX Super 6 app.

Pocket-sized Sports

As much as most of us would like to spend our days watching sports in a comfy chair, real-life tends to get in the way of that. Thankfully, with the right sports app or apps, you can give real-life the slip and have all the sporting news, reviews, commentary and even live-streamed matches right there in your pocket at all times.
