Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Review: Better Than Previous Game?

In recent years Marvel has emerged as the leading superhero comic publisher in the world. Mostly, the credit for this goes to the recent success of Marvel movies, but there are other factors involved in the success. One of those is Marvel’s Spider-Man game. Released for gaming consoles, Marvel’s Spider-Man game quickly became the talk of the town and was praised by gamers and critics alike. Now, Marvel has released their new Spider-Man game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Here is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review to let the gamers about the new game and how it is different from the previous game. 

All New Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

To start the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review, we first need to know about the game itself. Marvel’s first Spider-Man game was released in 2018 by ‘Insomniac’ and immediately became a fan favourite due to its high-level graphics and engaging storyline. After the release, Marvel also released its remastered version in 2020 for PS5, which had even better graphics because of the incorporation of ray-tracing. In the same year, Marvel released another game, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which was a spinoff of the original game. Now, Marvel has released their latest game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which has created quite a buzz. So much so that Insomniac has offered a $10 gift card for anyone who wants to buy the game. 

This game is set 10 months after the events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game revolves around the story of a 25-year-old biochemist, Peter Parker and his protege, Miles Morales’ journey of making their city a safe place to live by dawning the identity of Spider-Man. 

The game was highly anticipated by the gaming community, mostly because of the success of the previous games. People wondered, ‘Where can you go from here?’.  Although there aren’t many differences in terms of actual gameplay and game mechanics, Insomniac has answered that question very well. Turns out, the answer to that question is to double down on everything. Double down the map’s size, double down the amount of Spidermen, double down the cinematic scenes and improve the gaming mechanics and graphics. This is what happened with the latest instalment. Unlike previous games, here you play with 2 spidermen, in a map that is twice as big. However, there still are many changes from the previous instalment. Before starting the review it's worth noting that the game is released exclusively for PlayStation 5, which is one of the best gaming consoles out there. 

Less Stealth

Unlike the previous games in the series, this game emphasises less on the stealth facet of the game. Previously the games were very stealthy. To a point where you could finish some of its missions without even getting spotted. However, in this new instalment, the stealth has been reduced and it is more up-front now. The main reason is because the stealth missions in the previous games had a pattern and people started to notice the pattern which made the game less fun. Another reason is that in the previous games, there was only 1 Spider-Man, but in this game, there are 2 Spider-Man, which makes it fun to just beat your enemies up rather than being in stealth all the time. This is one of the main differences that we found in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review. 

Enemy Variety

Another aspect in which Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review is different is the variety of enemy you have to face in the game. It's not a very big difference but it serves a purpose. Unlike the previous game where all you had in the name of enemies were a few bullies with baseball bats in their hands, here you have a variety of enemies with their own strengths and weaknesses. For instance, there are a few enemies who are more susceptible to electrical and symbiotic attacks. On the contrary, there are many enemies who restrict our movement and abilities too. Enemy variety has plagued every single Spider-man game that has ever been released, but luckily, that is not the case with their latest instalment. 

Script Writing

In this Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review, another thing to focus on is the writing of the game. In the comics, Spider-Man is one of the best-written superheroes ever. However, this was not the case for its shows and live-action movies, but this game has done it justice. The writing of this game is top-notch. From Story to character, everything is written so well that people indulge themselves in the game. It has gameplay from both the spidermen. Although the story completely revolves around their Spiderman job, there are a few side missions which focus on the daily life of Peter and more importantly, Miles. The game tells an intricate story of the sacrifices it takes to be a Spider-Man. 

Rogue Gallery

Now the next thing in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review is the list of Rogues or enemies of Spider-Man. To emphasise the role of villains in a superhero context, there is a saying that goes like, “A superhero is only as good as its villains.” Spider-Man has some of the best villains among a plethora of superheroes. From Dr Octavious to Green Goblin to Venom, Spider-Man has some of the most exciting and well-written villains ever.
