Immune Your iPhone From Hackers Using Security Tips

iPhone Security Tips

Around 1 billion iPhone users at risk of "zero-click" spyware being installed in the devices by NSO, an Israeli company; in September 2021, emergency alarms rang in the Apple headquarters. This major security catastrophe left iPhone users vulnerable to hackers being able to install unauthorised spyware in the devices without the requirement of interacting with the illicit link.

Another startling situation of emergency clouded the Apple headquarters in the month of August in the year 2019 when two major security loopholes were detected in the systems. This alarming situation led to the issuance of security warnings for all iPhone users with immediate effects.

Such cyber-attacks are rather ubiquitous in the tech world, but such breaches being detected in iPhones was a bolt from the blue. These attacks and security breaches not only shake the foundations of trust instilled in the users but also lead to complications and obstacles for the organisation's internal management. The course of action to overcome such incompetencies in the system can sometimes be gruelling.

Apart from the regular technical replacements and maintenance undertaken by the operators, some precautionary steps can be taken by iPhone users to safeguard their devices against any kind of potential security threat because an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

Strong Passwords: Shield Against Threats

The fundamental step in ensuring the device's safety is setting a strong password. Instead of the four-digit pin code, the usage of alphanumeric passcodes ensures higher security standards. Adding a face id or touch ID protection will provide additional security.
To further add to the security, using different passwords for different applications can make the device immune to threats.
"Choosing a hard-to-guess, but easy-to-remember password is important!"
-Kevin Mitnick (World's most famous hacker)

Vigilance In Information Dissemination

Being aware of what information is being used by different apps is substantial. Keeping track of the data and performing regular safety checks can be a small step that saves the device from any threats. Reading the privacy policy of all the apps in detail is tedious, but keeping a regular check and giving access to only necessary apps can be a step toward security.

Restraining Account Accessibility

Unauthorised account activities act as a host to information leaks. iPhones are stuffed with various security features like Face IDs and touch Ids to securely enter the account instead of using passwords. For added security, two-factor or pre-installed authentication should be used to ensure that there is little or no scope for any security threat.

Supervising Email Encryption and Security

To make sure that the iPhone is protected from security malfunction through emails, it is crucial to make sure that any additional information is not displayed in emails. Using the mail privacy protection feature provided in the iPhones so that the IP address is not sent along with other details. Turn off the "load remote images" option in the device so that no browser detail is leaked in the public domain.
According to Mailfence, an encrypted email service, "90% of data breaches result from spam, phishing, and malware".

Aversion To Unknown Networks

Avoid connecting the device to unknown/open Wi-Fi sources, and turn off the "auto-join" function so that the device is not automatically connected to any Wi-Fi network. If completely avoiding open Wi-Fi is not feasible, then the use of a VPN provides additional security against any data/information leaks to unauthorised sources.

Apart from these main tips, some other hacks and ideas can also be used to safeguard against any security mishap on the iPhone.

  • Enabling USB restriction to prevent juice jacking. It prohibits transferring important information or installing unauthorised software in the devices via USB points.

  • Activate Airplane mode or shut down the device if any unknown source is trying to get into the system. This will break any potential connection that the hacker tries to establish.

  • Keep the device updated. The software updates may automatically solve any minor glitch or problem in the system that may pertain to any data loss.

No hacks and tips are infallible against a potential security breach, but being on the safer side of things can curtail huge losses. Security breaches are shooting up, and tech leaders are guarding their devices against these breaches with full force.

Even though there are some minor glitches in the system, the iPhone remains to be the cock of the walk.
