The post of probationary officer is considered to be sought after and prestigious and it is a great start for your career.

There is also negative marking. 0.25 marks are cut for each wrong answer. The mains exam consists of both objective and descriptive type questions. It covers questions from topics like reasoning ability, data analysis, general awareness, economic knowledge and the English language. It is a total of 200 marks and the students need to attempt the exam within 3 hours. After clearing the exams, selected candidates have to sit for an interview. It consists of a group discussion and a personal interview with a panel of judges. Based on your performance in the interview, a merit list is released with the name of selected candidates.

Preparing for the SBI PO exam requires a full focus of the candidate. You need to prepare with dedication and sincerity if you want to do well in the exam. Preparation can be completed in a short span of time as well if you stay focused and lay down clear goals for yourself. You can definitely prepare for the exam in six months and score well. You should keep the following tips in mind while preparing for the exam:

Be well-versed with the syllabus and pattern

It is important that you know the syllabus and pattern of the exam well. Brush up on your vocabulary for the English section by reading daily. You can read newspapers or online articles. Reading the newspaper daily will also help you keep up with the current affairs and economic and banking knowledge in the country. Build a timetable specific for each section. This will help you complete the syllabus for all the sections without missing anything out and also keep track. You can give extra time to sections that you think might require extra attention from you.

Prepare a timetable and set short-term goals

Preparing for the exam can be overwhelming as there is a lot of syllabus that needs to be covered. Dividing your syllabus and allotting short term goals for yourself and having a schedule will help you stay focused. Achieving short term goals will help you feel motivated as well. While creating your schedule, be sure to give yourself breaks so that you don't tire yourself out.

Write and learn

Making notes while preparing is extremely helpful as it helps you learn better and retain better what you are studying. Making notes will also help you make the information concise and easy for you to revise. Make notes of static general knowledge, formulas for qualitative sections etc. This will come in handy when you need to revise right before the exam.

Clear all your concepts

Most concepts in the syllabus or in the sections that are asked in the exam are based on concepts that we have already covered in schools or colleges. You can refer online or to books that are school level and cover the given topics. NCERT books are a good help in preparing for the exam. If the books are not enough for clearing your concepts, you can refer to help books online or offline and also look for tutorials.

Constantly monitor your section-wise strength

When you build a section-wise strategy it will help you know where you stand in terms of a particular section and how much more practice it might need. Spend extra time on a section if you are not confident with it. Practice all the questions thoroughly.

Practice mock papers

SBI PO prelims mock test and the main mock test are available online. The candidates can look for them and attempt them. They should attempt as many papers as possible and analyse their performance. This will help them understand the kind of questions they should expect in the exam. After attempting the exam, analyse your performance. This will help you understand how well you are prepared and which section might need more concentration. Time yourself while attempting the mock exams so that you can manage your time well and not run out of time in the actual exam. Preparing with the help of mock exams and practicing them regularly can help you score good marks and clear the exam.

Negative marking

Do not attempt any questions unless you are completely sure of the answer. There is a negative marking in both the prelims and main exams. It is not advisable that you answer any question unless you are fully sure of the answer. Negative marking can affect your overall score.

Do not waste time

Do not waste time on any topic or section. If you feel a particular question or section is taking too long, leave it and come back to it later. Since time is limited, it is not advised that you waste time on one particular one and leave the rest as you may run out of time. Come back to these questions in the end.

Being thorough with your topics and preparation can help you prepare well for the exam in six months. Keep the above-mentioned tips in mind and stay focused. Let go of all the distractions while you are preparing for the exam. You will be able to crack it on the first attempt. Best of luck!
